About Pocatello UU Fellowship:The PUUF is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association of North America and is an ethical and liberal religious community dedicated to promoting the ongoing search for truth and to affirming the inherent worth of the individual. We understand reality through human experience, enlightened reason, scientific method, and the democratic process, and we find the central source of power and goodness within the human heart, mind, and spirit. Individually and collectively, we assume responsibility for our future, our community, our children, and our interdependent world. Our growth and actions as thoughtful, compassionate, and ethical human beings advance our humanist vision of a world of peace and love, dignity and equality, freedom and justice. Our Mission:The Unitarian Fellowship of Pocatello is a caring community of individuals and families which provides a religious environment dedicated to freedom of thought and welcoming of diverse expression. OUR MISSION IS TO: * Affirm and promote the principles of the Unitarian Universalist Association within the Pocatello community. Our Vision:We are Southeast Idaho's large, loud, liberal religious voice for all who value spiritual inquiry and work for social justice. Our HistoryStarted by a group of dedicated couples and individuals, our small lay-led fellowship was incorporated as the Unitarian Fellowship of Pocatello (UFP) about 1960. Boasting up to 40 members and an extremely active children's religious education program, the UFP met in a number of Pocatello locations throughout the 60's and into the '70s. After disbanding temporarily in the mid 1970's due to declining membership, UFP was reorganized in 1987. Members and friends met in each other's homes during the rebuilding process, before moving to our current location at 309 N. Garfield in 1989 where we began 4pm services followed by our popular pot-luck dinners. The 1990's brought a number of significant changes including a name change in 1999 to the Pocatello Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (PUUF). PUUF called the Rev. Louise Robeck from Delaware, as an Extension Minister in 1996. After the departure of Rev. Robeck in 1997, PUUF continued as a lay-led fellowship, a tradition which continues to this day. Our membership roles swelled to a high of 60 by the mid-90s and continue to range in the low to mid 50's. With the addition of covenant groups in the early 2000's, and growing children's and adult Religious Exploration programs, PUUF is currently enjoying a period of sustained growth. |
